Mesh or Leather?

Which you think is better for a Jacket. I've had both.

Leather is better for keeping down road rash

Mesh is good on hot days

but I would go with a suite of chain mail keeps down road rash and it will let the wind in.

A Modern Mesh jacket will portect against road rash much like leather. The stuff if tough. Plus on my Johnny Rocket mest I can take the waterproof liner out when it is hot. It also had padding inthe elbows, arm, shoulder, and lower back.

With a mesh jacket you will get more proctection, cheaper purchase price, and more versatility for cold and hot weather.

Leather provides more protection but less comfort. It is really a matter of what you want more of, comfort or protection.

I have a Joe Rocket combo jacket. I has leather in the important parts but vinyl mesh in others for ventilation.

I presume that you're ruling out the possibility of getting both, and wearing the mesh on really hot days, and the leather the rest of the time.

If I could only get one, I'd get a leather jacket.  It's going to be tough to get one jacket to do everything, but if I have to choose whether to compromise comfort (being hot on really hot days, with leather) or protection (being a little less protected with mesh), I'd compromise comfort.

Mesh is more for warm weather riding.   Leather or solid textile jackets are for normal and cooler temps.

Many people may need two jackets and use whichever one is more comfortable for the season, unless they get a combo jacket which has a removable solid outer shell and a inner mesh jacket.

I have both a leather and a mesh jacket myself.

I wear mesh with elbow, shoulder and back body armor in hot weather and leather in cooler weather.

How fast will you be going when you fall off ? Only leather will protect you if you're going to be skidding down the highway, and you'll need it if you fall off even at only 25 or 30mph.
