Earlier this season, the two players had an argument on the pitch during a match against Granada. That incident on the ground was understood by some to be the evidence of the tension that exists between the two players.
Some reports in the media cited that Villa was frustrated with the lack of starting line-up role in the club and that is what led to the bust-up with Messi.
However, Messi doesn’t agree with these revelations and in an interview said that they are just speculations. He also had words of praise for Villa, saying that it is difficult to have a problem with him as he has a good character.
"Obviously that all stayed on the field. We get on very well, just as everyone does in the dressing-room. He is a good person and does not fight with anyone. It is difficult to fight with him given the character he has. There was
more talk about what happened, but there is no problem."
Meanwhile, Villa has also commented on his frustration with the lack of starting line-up role but also admitted that there is an intense competition for places inside the team.
"I am at the best club in the world and the competition to get playing time is very fierce."
The 30-year-old got his first start of the season and also netted one goal against Alaves in the Copa del Rey on Tuesday. Barcelona won that game 3-0.
