The little Argentine grabbed yet another brace to move closer to Gerd Muller’s record tally of 85, as he led his side to a 3-1 win over Zaragoza.

Zaragoza equalised through Montanes as he lashed on to a loose ball after a corner kick.

Zaragoza asked a lot of questions from Barcelona, but their hopes of a comeback were spoiled by yet another act of genius by Lionel Messi. The Argentine curled a long range strike in off the up-right and it was seen as impossible for the keeper to stop.
Messi’s brace helped Barcelona retain their 8-point advantage over their fellow title contenders, as Madrid also went on to beat a struggling Athletic Bilbao side 5-1 at the Bernabeu.
The Argentine’s most recent goal scoring exploits have seen him climb to an unbelievable 78 goals in the current calendar year and has his eyes firmly set upon breaking the record of Bayern Munich and German international, Gerd Muller.
