Barcelona’s star forward http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296 has told reporters that he puts his team’s status before his own success.
Although scoring a remarkable number of goals for the Catalans, the 25-year-old Argentine has made it clear that Barcelona need to win more trophies, and wishes that their trophy cabinet had less space by the end of last year.
By winning neither the Champions League, nor La Liga last year, the striker seems a bit disappointed in the club. However, he has admitted that due to his own personal achievements, last year’s campaign is one he is unlikely to forget.
He states that he would prefer the trophies over the goals that he scored last season.
“I would have preferred to have scored fewer goals and won more trophies, but due to the number of goals I scored, it will be a truly unforgettable one for me,” the Argentine national said.
The 25-year-old scored 72 times in all the competitions last season, however, his club ended up with only two trophies, the European Super Cup and the Copa del Rey. This season he says he wants to see more trophies in the cabinet.
He wants to see himself score goals, however, he would be happier to see himself holding trophies.
“I hope this season is similar but I haven’t set myself a target and I’m not thinking of a number. The more goals I score the better, and however many more titles we win, that’s even better,” said Messi.
For the fourteen titles Barcelona have won in the past four years, Messi gives all the credit to his former coach, Pep Guardiola.
They young forward stated that it was his training that helped Barcelona come out of a two-year slump and that Pep brought up the team’s morale.
“He was fundamental from the start, because we’d come from two years without winning anything. We felt low and sad, and he changed everything with his trust, his desires and his work ethic,” said the Argentine.
Barcelona have started this year’s season with a bang, with three wins in three matches, the Catalans are sitting up top and have no plans on coming back down.
However, losing the Spanish Super Cup to Madrid was a bit of a blow. However, it’s only the start of the season, and Barcelona do not plan on disappointing.
