The Argentine has scored 76 goals in 59 appearances and is looking forward to beating Gerd Muller’s record of 85 goals.
Lionel Messi’s brace against Mallorca last night stretched his calendar year goal tally to an unbelievable 76 goals, smashing the record of Pele’s personal best of 75 goals in the 1958 calendar year season.
Goals are always on their way in a football match when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296 takes to the field and it was no different story than expected, when F.C Barcelona travelled to Mallorca for their La Liga encounter on Sunday night.
Xavi had put Barcelona ahead on 28 minutes when he scored a sumptuous free kick.
Messi then doubled Barcelona’s advantage at the 44th minute mark when the little Argentine found himself in yards of space. His low shot left the Mallorca goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dudu-Aouate-c11703 embarrassed as he failed to collect the Argentinean’s effort and
it slipped through his grasp and crossed the goal line.

Tello then added http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dudu-c11699 and graced the bottom corner of the Mallorca goal.
Mallorca then scored twice within 13 minutes of the second period and took the game to Barcelona, but all hopes of a famous comeback were thwarted when the diminutive Argentine riffled in an emphatic second after some beautiful work from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alexis-Sánchez-c4979.
The goal took Messi’s goal tally to an incredible 76, one better than Pele.
The Barcelona star now only trails Bayern Munich’s and West Germany’s Gerd Muller, who scored 85 goals for both club and country in 60 games in the 1972 calendar year.
Messi, who has 76 goals from 59 appearances to his name this year,  can make a maximum of nine more appearances for Barcelona in the 2012 season where he will look on to equalize or surpass the famous record held by Gerd Muller.
The three-time Ballon d’Or winner is in the running for his fourth consecutive aforementioned award, and come January, breaking or equalizing Muller’s record will have a great effect on the swinging of the pendulum in his favour.
