In a gesture of immense humility, the South American footballer has taken out time to tip his teammate as the worthy contender for the Golden Ball.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296 firmly established that Andres Iniesta deserves to win the FIFA Ballon d’Or this season. Despite having the best year in his football career in terms of individual accomplishment, the player has emphasized that Iniesta had more to
contribute towards the success of the team.
Interestingly, Messi himself is now considered the most likely winner of the prestigious accolade since he has been performing beyond remarkably in the recent year. The footballer recently managed to break the record of being the highest number of goals
scored in one year.
After having scored 86 goals in 2012, the Argentine international has managed to break the record previously held by Gerd Muller. The retired Bayern Munich forward scored 85 goals in one year during his playing days.
La Pulga was able to break that record this year, in addition to breaking a number of other records as well. The prolific attacker has scored the highest number of goals across all of Europe in one season.
In addition, he is the highest goal-scoring player in the history of Barcelona. Last season he also broke the record for the highest number of goals scored in one Spanish La Liga season as he won the Pichichi with 50 goals.
However, despite managing to do all of this the footballer has humbly suggested that Iniesta should be named the winner of the Ballon d’Or. He also discussed breaking Muller’s record, but insisted that his teammate has been a better performer.
"I would not mind giving the Ballon d'Or to Andres," the 25-year-old told reporters. "He deserves it for how well he and the team are doing."
"As it is often said, it is very nice to beat [Muller's] record, but the important thing is maintaining a gap ahead of our rivals," he added.
"It was very hard to come here. Betis are doing well in the league so it was a very important victory."
Barcelona are currently at the top of the Spanish Primera Division’s league standings and are yet to be beaten in their Liga BBVA campaign.
