in the semi-final. He added that Germany was the only team in the competition to win all their group games, which is certainly a great achievement.
The former Werder Bremen man stated that Die Mannschaft are being criticised for their display in the semi-final which is unfair as Germany were the most consistent team in the qualifiers and in the competition also.
“We should not change everything because of one result. We won 15 games with the same team. Because of one tight result, the three games in the group stage are being overlooked and now there is a discussion over sacking the coach,”
he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, the midfielder added that the team needs a bit of luck to win a competition and unfortunately, Germany have not had that in the past few years. He added that the team has been very consistent considering they
reached four consecutive competitive semi-finals but, admitted that winning a title is always difficult.
“To win a title, everything must be right. But you also need some luck. To have been in the semi-finals four times in a row [going back to the 2006 World Cup] is a great achievement. We're doing everything to win a title but it's
not so easy,” the player concluded.
