Mesut Ozil delighted by the applause of Real Madrid fans
New Real Madrid star Mesut Ozil has revealed he is delighted with his start to life at the club- he feels the La Liga giants’ fans have already taken him into their hearts.
The 21-year-old was the subject of intense media speculation as to his destination after shining at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and helping Germany to a third-place finish at the tournament. He only had a year left to run on his contract and so Werder Bremen
were looking to sell him this summer as to avoid losing a valuable asset for nothing next year.
Despite reports linking him to moves to Barcelona, Manchester United and Chelsea, the midfielder opted to join Jose Mourinho’s Madrid revolution. Today, the attacker admitted that he was over the moon that the club’s fans had already warmed to his talents.
He told the Spanish daily newspaper, Marca, that, “I was proud to hear the applause from the audience, really proud. The crowd is helping me a lot but also all the team. I always want to give the best I can on the field and hope people will continue
to be happy with my football at the end of the game with Ajax, but most importantly because the team has won.”
Madrid kick off their UEFA Champions League campaign tonight against Ajax as Mourinho bids to become the first coach ever to win the title with three different clubs. Madrid also has a storied history with the trophy as they have won it nine times — more
than any other club.
Ozil added that, “We want to win everything, including the Champions League, and I urge the fans to trust us. Mourinho motivates us a lot but he also demands the utmost from his team. I enjoy playing here and it shows on the field.”
