The 23-year-old completed a century of appearances for Los Blancos, becoming the highest capped German national overtaking Gunter Netzer in the process.
Mesut Ozil joined Real Madrid after an impressive 2010 FIFA World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757. The former Werder Bremen star has not looked back since then and recently completed a century of appearances for Los Blancos.
His latest accomplishment in the Spanish capital have allowed him to overtake Gunter Netzer as the most capped German player, a feat that he is admittedly proud of.
Ozil reflected that he is honoured to displace such an illustrious compatriot in the record books but believes that despite the enormity of his latest achievement, he still has a lot to prove with Real Madrid.
The exciting attacking midfielder stated that he does not pride himself in such comparisons and wants to improve himself with his performances.
"Gunter Netzer was a great player, who everyone at Real Madrid still respects,” Ozil stated.
“Therefore, I am honoured to have played as many games as he did with the club. Such comparisons are secondary to me though as I'm more concerned with my performance on the pitch.”
Ozil also took out time to talk about Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich. The 23-year-old stated that he has not had time to rue the agonizing penalty kick loss with La Liga fixtures crammed up.
With Los Blancos adding La Liga title to their illustrious history, Ozil admitted that he will never forget the hard work they put in to make it possible, and especially the ensuing celebrations.
He added that the title success is a just reward after their year-long hard toils in Spanish top flight domestic competition.
"We had no time to think about the loss, we immediately had to focus on the league. I'll never forget this championship and the celebrations afterwards. We've been rewarded for a year of hard work."
With the final league fixture of the 2011/12 season round the corner, Real Madrid have the good fortune of playing in the comfortable surroundings of the Santiago Bernabeu. Jose Mourinho’s charges welcome Mallorca to the Spanish capital for their final outing
of the campaign.
