Mesut Ozil says La Liga is superior to Bundesliga and Gago insists he wants to stay at Madrid
German midfielder Mesut Ozil has quickly declared his allegiance to the Spanish league after arriving at Real Madrid. He said that Spanish football is clearly superior to the Bundesliga.
Ozil, who is the latest signing by Real Madrid, is on a public relations mission since arriving in Madrid. In his latest interview, the German said that he had been watching Spanish football on TV since his childhood days. Derby matches such as Real Madrid vs. Barcelona encounters or Real Madrid vs. Valencia games always attracted his attention according to the striker. Mesut claimed that he used to dream of playing in the Spanish football league when he was 11 and he was excited that dream has come true.
Mesut however added that the La Liga was physically more demanding than other leagues in Europe and he was looking forward to adapt to the conditions. He said that Spain attracts some of the best players in the world. Ozil said that players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka made their way to Spain last season and they certainly are two of the best footballers in the world. Ozil went on to say that apart from playing alongside such big names, he is looking forward to work under the special one. The German confirmed that he has always admired the managerial style of Jose Mourinho and knows that he can bring glory days back to Madrid.
The German midfielder said that he has a great chance to be part of a team that brings back the La Liga to Madrid. According to Mesut Ozil, Madrid is a club with a rich history and with such great players in the team, there is no reason why Real Madrid should not win the Spanish league or the Champions’ League.
Ozil, who scored a memorable goal in the World Cup game against Ghana in the final group match, reflected on the series of events that led to his signing with the Spanish giants.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid midfielder Fernando Gago maintains that he is staying at Madrid for the new season. Real Madrid has made some big signings this season and the midfield is believed to be full of replacements. With the German duo of Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil making their way in the squad, Real Madrid has its hands full in the midfield region. Dutch midfielder Rafael Van Der Vaart is also believed to be one of player who reportedly has being allowed to leave from Madrid before the transfer window closes. Apart from Ozil and Khedira, Angel di Maria and Pedro Leon are midfielders signed by Mourinho in this season too. So Gago may also be on the list of players on their way out of Madrid this season.
However, the former Boca Juniors midfielder said that he is determined to stay at Madrid and fight for his spot. Gago believed that he wanted to play under Mourinho and knew that he would be able to bring the club greater success in the new season. The midfielder believed that he has had talks with the Sporting Director at Real Madrid and Jose Mourinho and neither of them said anything that may suggest that they want to offload me.
Gago has played 88 matches for Real Madrid till date. However, he did not get enough opportunities in the first team in the previous season. That eventually did cost him a place in the World Cup squad for Argentina. Gago said that he came to Madrid to win trophies and till now he has not been able to achieve that but is confident that the time is right this season and he would not want to leave at this stage.
