Mesut Ozil tips Real Madrid to win El Clasico
Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil says that he doesn’t care when the El Clasico fixture is played, claiming that his side can beat Barcelona on any day of the week.
The Germany international was speaking after it was revealed by Spanish football’s governing body, the Liga de Futbol Profesional, that the biggest match in Spanish football would be pushed back 24 hours to Monday, 29 November, to accommodate elections taking
place in Catalunya that Sunday.
Several prominent players at the clubs — including Barca’s midfield stalwart Xavi Hernandez, Los Blancos keeper Victor Valdez and Madrid general director Jorge Valdano — have spoken out against the prospect of playing on a Monday.
However, Ozil is relishing the opportunity to play in the fixture for the first time following his summer move from Werder Bremen and claimed that he doesn’t care when the game is played.
He told reporters that: “I know that the match against Barcelona will be played on a Monday, but no matter what day the match is played on, the important thing is that we win the game, and we will, against Barcelona.
'Very good rapport'
“This team has much potential. We are a young team with great quality, we have a very good rapport, and although we have had matches that have not gone well, we have learned from those matches.
“Every player in the squad wants to prove something to Real Madrid, and every match is important. I am very pleased and happy to play in this team. The support that I received was fantastic. I try to give 100 per cent in every game and support the team because
the fans are fantastic.”
Ozil earned a move to La Liga giants Madrid after excelling for his country at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. So far this season, he has scored three goals and created four assists in 10 Primera Division games.
