Love and family in a video game?!
Hideo Kojima, the person behind the Metal Gear Solid series, has pointed out that his next project is set to be a major change from what his studio, Kojima Productions, and him have been associated with over the years.
Speaking in a recent interview with CVG, Kojima explained that he was in the early stages of developing a new series of games based around issues that video games have not explored as deeply as they could have. He also admitted that the Metal Gear Solid
series has been used to test out a number of ideas for the game.
He said, “There are a lot of real world issues I want to address, but the reason I kept making the MGS saga and its sequels is that it allowed me to explore my ideas.”
Kojima continued, “But now I’m starting a new series, focusing on new set of issues.” What those ‘issues’ are is still unclear at this point but the talent developer did hint at the fact that “it might be something more on a human level, like the concept
of love, or rearing a family.”
The Metal Gear Solid developer also went on to explain that as technology developed over time the limitations and restrictions on what developers could do have been stretched. “Now it’s evolved to the point where you can realize almost anything in a game
world since technology has evolved, “ said Kojima before elaborating, “my perspective has changed from creating rules, to creating situations, and putting people in those situations.”
Kojima also acknowledged the level of risk that comes with such a venture, however, the challenge of creating something new and exploring uncharted video game territory is something that appealed to him on a personal and creative level.
The developer also gave his seal of approval to Sony and Naughty Dog’s upcoming title, The Last of Us, which he believes was also developed with the mindset of exploring new territory, although Kojima’s project would be different to what The Last of US was
aiming to accomplish.
In the mean time gamers have Project Ogre to look forward to and rumour has it that the game could very well be set in the Metal Gear universe.
