Metal X's on beach of Normandy

What were they called during WW2 the Germans used them so ships couldnt get on land during high tide. i just need to know the name of them

please help

  1. Czech Hedgehogs. This is coming from Time's "D-Day: 24 Hours That Saved the World" tribute they put out for the 60th anniversary of the Invasion of Normandy. In the chapter 0200-0300: The Germans on page 34 it's stated Rommel put together numerous traps and obstacles which he called "my inventions." These included the beach obstruction called Czech hedgehogs which were three six foot long railroad rails that had been welded together in that X pattern

    But that was only one of many different beach obstacles including "Belgian gates" "log ramps" and "Rommel's asparagus"

    the latter being a single angled pole topped with a mine.
