Metal detectors in school?

Recently a sixteen year old boy was shot to death here in Knoxville Tn. by a Hispanic boy. Don't you think if metal detectors had been used this could have been prevented? Shouldn't that be some kind of law that each school have these, since it's happened so many times?

  1. Yes I do since this has become a reoccurring incident in schools. An unfortunate one that deems dramatic measures. How sad the kids can't feel safe at school anymore. A true American tragedy.

  2. Metal detectors will only catch the items brought in on their bodies. There are many other ways that someone can sneak something into school. They can throw it over the fence in a secluded area, the walk thru the metal detectors and get the item.

Someone could even wait outside the school and catch kids coming or going from the school and not be on the school grounds.

It is tragic when this happens. There is no way to fully stop it. Metal detectors would increase cost burdens on already tight school budgets. It would also create staffing and traffic problems getting all the kids through the detectors everyday.

Metal detectors will give some a "safe feeling" but will not eliminate the problem.
