  1. a metamorphic rock is formed when an exissting rock is changed by heat ,pressure, or chemical reaction most metamorphic rocks form deep underground.scientist classify metamorphic rocks by the arrangement of their grains that make up a rock. metamorphic rocks that have thier grains arranged in parrel bands are foliated.

ex: slate and gneiss are metamorphic rocks

  2. I've never heard of a metaphoric rock, but i can tell you about metamorphic rocks. A metamorphic rock is any other rock, igneous, sedimentary, or even other metamorphic rocks, that get exposed to extreme heat and or pressure and change into another kind of rock. Every metamorphic rock has a parent rock, the rock it was, before it was morphed. If you put shale under heat and pressure, it becomes slate, making slates parent rock shale.

  3. all rocks have a certain pressure point and when that point is reached the rocks change structure and it changes in density the minerals in the rocks and changes the chemical with in them, and by doing so is called metamorphism. an example

    is a diamond.

  4. A metapmorphic rock is a rock that goes under extreme heat and/or pressure. Some examples include gneiss, slate, quartzite, etc.

  5. any rock that has hardened a changed form from another metamorphic rock "like phyllite from slate" or from another rock "quartzite from sandstone"

Metamorphic rock is the result of the transformation of a pre-existing rock type, the protolith, in a process called metamorphism, which means "change in form ".The protolith is subjected to heat and pressure (temperatures greater than 150 to 200 °C and pressures of 1500 bars[1]) causing profound physical and/or chemical change. The protolith may be sedimentary rock, igneous rock or another older metamorphic rock. Metamorphic rocks make up a large part of the Earth's crust and are classified by texture and by chemical and mineral assemblage (metamorphic facies). They may be formed simply by being deep beneath the Earth's surface, subjected to high temperatures and the great pressure of the rock layers above. They can be formed by tectonic processes such as continental collisions which cause horizontal pressure, friction and distortion. They are also formed when rock is heated up by the intrusion of hot molten rock called magma from the Earth's interior.

    and remember this saying:

Schist happens on a Gneiss day metamorphically speaking...

more ex. slate phyllite schist gneiss quartzite marble...

  6. a metamorphic rock is made when another type of rock (igneous or sedimentary) is changed by great heat or pressure. eg. marble, quartzite and slate
