Meteorologists (weather forecasters) analyze air pressure to predict weather patterns and conditions. What factors change air pressure and how would a meteorologist use this information to predict weather? Use Miami and New York as your examples.

  1. The forecaster can look at any surface map and see where the lowest and high pressure areas are.   A trough is an area of low pressure and a ridge is high pressure.   If you forecast and area of low pressure to move,  the weather will get worse in those areas where it moves to and better where areas of high dominate.
