  1. When the sun heats the air it rises. As the Earth rotates this rising air flows parallel (or nearly) to the surface thus creating wind. As the warm air rises a void is created causing surrounding air to move in to fill the gap, thus another way to form wind.

  2. The sun heats the air which causes a change in pressure. Since gas likes to maintain equilibrium within its containment area, air will flow in to equalize low pressure areas - this flow of air is what causes wind.

  3. Uneven heating is one of the main causes of wind.  When warm air rises, it pulls cooler air in below it.  When cooler air falls, it pulls warmer air in over it.  The result is wind.  Another cause is the rotation of the earth.  The atmosphere doesn't rotate as fast as the earth does.
