  1. Weather is one of the most interesting things on the planet.  I love it.  I am an air traffic controller and weather plays a very big part in my job.  If you are interested in becoming a meteorologist then stick to sciences specifically earth sciences.  Also, I don't know how old you are but the Air Force has a very good meteorologist career field.  It is very technical but also very interesting and rewarding if you like it.

  2. Your spelling is fine, as is your interest in the field. If you are really lucky and are interested in boating, join the Coast Guard Auxilliary. It's worth it just for the insurance discount but they also have a good course in "Weather". You can also take the regular CG course in Meteorology. Both stress meteorology for the mariner but you still learn what you need to know inland.

Otherwise, start reading about the field. The Golden Guides include a rather good one on meteorology. These guides are a fine place to start learning about almost any field they cover.
