  1. The drug itself (inside the pill) was delivered to your small intestine. This is a normal occurrence. Don't worry! The capsule that the sustained release tablets are in are made of is an indigestible material by the human body, with a laser drilled delivery system that pushed the medicine out over time, but the capsule just passed through untouched. There are a lot of medications out there that do this same thing. Don't panic, your Metformin is doing it's job.

  2. Let your doctor know, and report it to the drug manufacturer.  You should work with your endocrinologist to determine if you need to be seen by a GI specialist to rule out digestive system issues. Letting the manufacturer know will help if it is a problem with the manufacturing process or formulation. When you contact the manufacturer make sure you know the batch number, this you can get from the pharmacist.
