Method of measuring aircraft dimensions?

I am currently working on a project of my school which requires me to measure the dimensions of the empennage of a cessna plane.

Does any of you have any experience doing something like that? Can you please share it with me? Thank you.

I haven't done this, but you can wrap a long piece of rope around the part that you want to measure, and then simply measure the rope after you lie it out flat.

I'm not sure what kind of dimensions you are looking for, but the aircraft manuals usually have several pictures with dimensions. Try to get ahold of the maintenance manual or pilot information manual. but if you need to do it by hand a tape measure works well. If you need to measure curves a tape measure that is flexible like on that tailors use works well. Hope this helps,
