  1. plant more trees and vegetation, they shield the soil from the weather and hold it in place.

  2. plant something... anything... maybe some pretty little wild flowers native to the area. Or death free tomato plants. Anything...

  3. Planting fast growing and spreading grasses and wildflowers is one way.  You can place "barriers" such as canvas or plastic liners alone edges of spots where erosion is occuring. It slows down the process until you get growth from plants.  The #1 pollutant of  streams in Penssylvania is "sedimentation" caused by stream bank erosion.  Much of that erosion is caused by an invasive species "japanese knotweed", brought in by railroad companies many years ago because it thrives in acidic soil.  Unfortunately it travels easily along streams banks where it sets up shop and shades out all other growth, causing the banks to erode, and sending all that soil into the water.  There are programs working to eradicate japanese knotweed but none have had any long lasting effect.  Erosion is a pollutant many people either don't know about or just ignore.  It's an important issue that needs new ideas.
