  1. Okay - we're talking about children who haven't really reached the age where they understand the why's and wherefore's of right and wrong.  For children 3 and under, re-direction is the best answer when faced with inappropriate behavior.  Having a heart to heart with one this young is like talking to a wall.  The ability to reason isn't there yet.  Remove them from the situation and direct their attention towards the behavior/activity you want. Then, when they are exhibiting the behavior you want - PRAISE, HUG, TICKLE, GIGGLE with them.  Whatever you can do to show them they are doing exactly the right thing.  Give it a try.  It's what I do for a living.  Be firm and consistent!
