  1. go to yahoo maps.

  2. haven't you heard of MAP QUEST!

  3. Closest Metra to you is the ex Illinois Central Electric Commuter line. This goes right past 71st and Jeffrey. From there, I'm not sure check their website. You go to Whitney Young? What year are you?

  4. www.mapquest.com

  5. Ask Metra itself:

    Metra Phone Numbers

    Weekdays 8:00am to 5:00pm CT

    Metra Passenger Services

    (312) 322-6777

    TDD (312) 322-6774

    Evenings & Weekends

    Transit Information Center

    836-7000 - City or Suburbs

    TDD (312) 836-4949

    South Shore Only Info

    Fares and Schedule Information

    800-356-2079 TDD/Voice

  6. mapquest it if not then use a taxi

  8. metra, or pace or cta buses, or a combination thereof, probably can get you between these places.

see below for some itineraries that i found.

the best choice would be to call the RTA at 836.7000 from any chicagoland area code.  outside of chicagoland, you should add area code 312 to the number.

the RTA is comprised of metra, cta, and pace, so the 1 phone number can get you the info for all 3 services, and is the best way to find out if 1 or more than 1 vehicle or mode (rail/bus, etc) might be required.

the best way is to use RTA's web site, as it combines metra, pace, and cta bus & el/subway services all on 1 site for its trip planner.

the website is  (NOTE:  NO www in adrs)  http://tripsweb.rtachicago.com

if you want to use the web, the site for metra is www.metrarail.com.  here you can get schedules and maps, but not much info about transferring to buses for a part of your trip.

another site is www.transitchicago.com. they have an automated "trip planner" that may help.  this is for CTA buses, subways, and els.  here you can also get maps and schedules for CTA.

but best to call on phone, that way you can ask questions if you need.

google transit is starting to add directions and maps using transit, but i dont think they have chicago done yet, but i havent checked it for a while.

mapquest and other online maps are so auto-centric that they only include roads/streets, not any rail or bus routes.  so to everyone who suggested mapquest, boo to you in this particular case.  not everyone has a car or chooses to use a car, and especially in chicago, you dont need a car.

ok, now to the details.  however, you should either recheck for yourself by entering the correct date and time of day of travel, as i had to guess.  schedules and routes may be different at different times of day.

anway, it looks like you could cta buses all the way, use 14 to ogilvie terminal, and transfer to 20.  this would be easiest, cheapest, and most direct service, would take about 1 hr total time, but is both buses and no trains, but no walking either for transfer.  the other choice is to use metra electric at bryn mawr station but you have to walk/ride to that station, but then in loop the metra electric takes you to millenium station, then you have to walk/el or bus over to oglivie to transfer again.  but this will get you a train ride, but it is more inconvenient for the transfers later.
