Question:

Metrolink expansion to Temecula California?

An article in a local business journal claims that Metrolink service will be expanded to Temecula, California. The article went on to say that construction would start in 2009 and be completed in 2010.

I did a search online, but couldn't find anything to confirm this.

Does anyone know when service will start and where the Temecula station will be located?

Also, are there any plans to continue on to either Oceanside or San Diego?

  1. Metrolink already goes to Oceanside.  Beyond that, you can switch to Amtrak to go to San Diego.

I haven't heard anything about expanding to Temecula.

  2. Chris P., you didn't even answer the question... how rude.

This article, linked below, mentions the same, that there has been "talk" of a Temecula spurt of the Riverside line, but not much more than that:

This other article envisions the line as a connection between Riverside and Temecula:

Since I had first heard, I thought the Temecula spur would connect Temecula to Corona and then continue into Orange County rather than connecting Temecual to Riverside, thought I cannot say where I ever saw such a plan.

A study plan (link below) commissioned by SCAG (Southern California Association of Governments) does not mention a Metrolink station as part of a larger mixed-use development/ transit center in Temecula.

As far as San Diego, San Diego is somewhat outside the commuter radius of the Los Angeles area, which is the primary focus of Metrolink. San Diego has it's own commuter rail line, the "Coaster," connecting Oceanside to San Diego, and Amtrak offers daily trains connecting Los Angeles and San Diego, so further service would be both outside the scope of Metrolink and redundant with existing equivalent services.

  3. US public transport is terrible, especially on the west coast, don't hold your breath for a light rail system in Temecula. Buy a $500 car on craigslist instead.
