Metropolitan sweepstakes update?

Question

I received a letter from them today with a check for 2,985, new # 403-889-7680 voice mail is full. The number on the check is 1888-634-5613 wells fargo, but the real # is 305-628-9466. I just couldn't believe it so I did a little serching.

Apparantly there are a lot of third prize winners. My letter is dated June 10, 2006 and my check is dated June 16th. Same amount ($2,985.00)

Mine is from Bank of America.

I'm throwing mine away. This obviously is some scam.

I received a letter also saying that i was the third prizewinner and they also gave me a check to cover the necessary fees in the amount of $2985.00. Something told me that this wasn't on the level and I kept trying to figure out what the scam was. I believe that once the check clears and you send them the money, you end up owing the bank the amount of the check and they stay with the money that you sent them. I just dont know why the bank would not tell us that the checks are not legit before we send them our money. Don't send them anything until you verify it with the bank first!!!
