Mets' Chief Operating Officer Jeff Wilpon prefers to keep David Wright and R.A. Dickey – MLB Update
New York Mets' Chief Operating Officer Jeff Wilpon rejected all the speculation about David Wright and R.A. Dickey as they might be traded this offseason.
He recently explained in the media and told reporters that the Mets are happy to have these two stars in the team.
"We hope to have a resolution, And you know what? Part of that resolution might be that we get deals done with both of them or one of them. Part of that might be that they both come back and play for us next year. They're both under contract. This is not a free-agent situation. This is not an arbitration situation. They're both under contract,” Wilpon said as he told the media why the top management wants to stick with these players for the next few seasons.
He added, "Or Sandy [Alderson] could decide that, gee, we trade one or both of them. That's not where we're at. Right now the process is ongoing. And I think that's the best way to characterize it."
Both showed consistent performance this past Major League Baseball season and earned great appreciation from the entire roster. They played well and won many games for the Mets.
At start of the season, the Mets lost too many games, but later Dickey and Wright showed their consistent plays and their team won many crucial matches.
R.A Dickey finished with 2.73 ERA along with 20-6 win-loss 230 strike-outs and 1.05 WHIP. Dickey’s this past season also proved one of the most successful seasons for him.
He achieved his first All-Star selection along with National League Strikeout Award, National League Shutouts Award, National League Cy Young Award, NL TSN Pitcher of the Year Award and Branch Rickey Award.
On the other hand, David Wright finished with .306 hitting average along with 21 home-runs, 93 RBIs and .391 OBP.
Wright is sitting comfortable with his career hitting average of .301 along with 204 home-runs, 818 RBIs and .381 OBP.
Experts believe that both players have showed consistent plays throughout the season and their management is now hoping a great season with them.
