Question:

Mets bullpen does it again..Blame Mannuel?

This is getting so ordinary with The Mets Pen blowing leads and giving games away. Maine had pithced 5 innings of shutout ball, and Mannuel with yet another poor decision, pulls him out and their "relief", relievers give up yet again, the lead and eventually, another reliver gives up the game totally. Do you blame Mannuel and his lack of decision making? Is he not aware of all the blown games his relievers have given away? Will this important matter prevent Mets from winning the division?

  1. If you go back to the 2006 NLDS when they lost Pedro, they were forced to start John Maine in Game 1 vs. the Dodgers. They felt he could pitch 4 innings and in the 5th would run into problems. They took him out with a lead after 4, and they won the game, and the series. John Maine runs into problems in the 5th and 6th inning, you can't fault the manager for taking him out. The problem is the bullpen can't hold a lead. Minaya refused to keep Chad Bradford, and Darren Oliver after the NLCS in '06, and has replaced them with inferior relievers, that was the turning point for the Mets' bullpen, and you can't continually blame Joe Smith and Aaron Heilman, what they're giving you now is all you're going to get and no more. Minaya has not done a good job in building his bullpen. Unless someone steps up and gets better, this is what you'll see right through September. The one guy who needs to step up and grab the bull by the horns is Dauner Sanchez, and he hasn't done it.

  2. Dude, have you payed any bit of attention to how John Maine has been doing lately. Every start he has gotten he leaves early because of a cramp or minor muscle distortion. And it always happened after the 6th inning.

Jerry was only trying to save him for another game. Its not his fault that the GM does not give him a good bullpen to work with.

This is why the Mets cant hold onto a good manager. The fans and the management always drive them away.

  3. No i blame the bullpen

  4. Bullpen sucks, blame the manager?

    Or should you

Bullpen sucks, blame the General Manager?

Added Info--Maine did load up the bases in the fifth but got out of it.  Maybe Maine told Jerry he did not have stuff anymore?  I'm not saying Jerry is an all time great manager (Thats why my team has Ozzie instead of him), but it is too hard to tell from just one situation if Jerry was to blame.   When you have a worthless bullpen, you're dammed if you do (a loss) and you are dammed if you don't (over-extending your starting pitching).

  5. No honestly don't blame jerry because it's not his fault that some relievers have bad days and some have good days. Also it doesn't help the fact that you're closer is on the DL

  6. Met fans are still busy blaming Willie Randolph.  It never occurs to them that they just don't have a good baseball team.

  7. You can't blame Manuel, the bullpen is simply not good enough to hold a lead and most managers will pull a starter if he loads the bases or gets in to trouble. The Mets are running away with the division right now because the Phillies and Marlins are falling apart but won't get farther then the NLDS with their lousy bullpen. I would blame Omar instead.

  8. I can't blame Jerry on this one.  He can only use the tools he has been given.  Now Omar... I can definitely point the finger there.  That guy should have been run out of Queens last year after the collapse.  He's the worst GM in baseball and proved he also has no class the way he let go of Willie.  And while this problem might not keep them from winning the division, it will hamper them from going beyond the NLDS.
