Mets may extend manager search to December

The teams in both the American and the National League are looking at ways to better their chances at the World Series in the coming 2011 campaign. The San Francisco Giants did their best, last season to prevail in their bid for the World Series. They achieved
the milestone in 5 games and took all hopes away from the Texas Rangers, who had never made it through to the finals before. Now with the off season on, teams are looking to capitalize on free agents available in the market. The problems in the roster will
be tended to and the aim will be to better their status before the spring season begins.
If one thought the New York Mets were out of a predicament when they signed on Sandy Alderson as the General Manager of the ball club, they were definitely wrong. There is still a matter of selecting the right players from a crux of free agents scattered
across the country. The problem with the initiative is to pick the right players and without a manager for the squad, the move would be particularly useless unless the side can mark the right man by the time the deal is made.
At the moment, interviews are being scheduled with numerous candidates and as Thanksgiving approaches, a new manager will be decided on, not only by the panel but by the board members who will meet in December. The Mets will be hoping for the decision to
go through soon as the free agents’ market will be closing and the options will be declining. Good managers may be heading over to other clubs which is one of the reasons why the interviews have to come through soon.
Sandy Alderson went on to say, "Theoretically, we'll have the first round done by the end of this weekend, and then hopefully the second round done by the following weekend, and then we ought to be on track to make a decision; late November, very early December."
Paul DePodesta, who along with J.P. Ricciardi, John Ricco and Wayne Krivsky will be having their say in the final decision. DePodesta recently said, "He was a huge help to the Dodgers organization. I think he was really helpful in the development of a lot
of those young kids who are in the core of their Major League team right now.
