Metta World Peace reacts to Los Angeles Lakers playoffs exit in bizarre fashion – NBA Update
The Los Angeles Lakers post season campaign came to an abrupt end with a 4 – 1 series loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Semi Finals. It was the second time in two years that the Lakers were dumped out in the second round, having
been beaten 4 – 0 by NBA World Champions Dallas Mavericks last year.
While many in the Lakers camp have reflected on the loss, there has none as unique or simply bizarre in their assessment as forward Metta World Peace. World Peace, who made the headlines just before the playoffs began by getting a 7 match suspension, had
some controversial things to say on Tuesday.
World Peace claimed that the Lakers were in fact the best team in the NBA.
"(We) definitely underachieved," World Peace said. "We were the best team in the NBA and lost in five (games). The best team in the NBA should be up 3-2 and playing tomorrow, but the (Oklahoma City Thunder was the) better team that took advantage of the
moment, that took advantage of their time, they seized, they grabbed it and they held on to it."
It was peculiar that World Peace’s claims came after a 4 – 1 series loss. In fact, the Lakers have not looked like the best team in the NBA since they won the Championship back in 2010. Since then the Lakers have not finished the season at the top of the
Western Conference, let alone the NBA, while their playoffs record has been pretty poor as well.
Still, World Peace said he believed in the team and that it performed pretty well in the playoffs. He went on to say that Los Angeles had OKC “beat”.
"I like this team," World Peace said. "You look at the team, you all saw some of the amazing things we did. OKC, we had those guys beat fairly easy. Fairly easy we had those guys beat.”
In World Peace’s view, the Lakers only lost the series because the Thunder have a team that’s been together for years. He also claimed that the Lakers in contrast have not been together that long, despite the core of side being the same since their back
to back championships.
