With so much fire power available on the roster, the oft-eccentric Lakers forward boasts about the championship aspirations......
The summer of 2012 certainly belonged to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Hollywood franchise went about its business in spectacular fashion, knitting together one of the strongest line ups in the NBA by the addition of Steve Nash and Dwight Howard. With Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol already present,
the Lakers have all of a sudden become the most talked about team in NBA, and are certainly formidable contenders for the NBA championship next season.
However a superstar roster does not guarantee immediate success – point in case Miami Heat’s failure to go all the way in their first try in the Big Three era.
The new-look Lakers also have a lot to prove before they can call themselves genuine title contenders. But that does not stop Metta World Peace from boasting about his team’s strength. In a recent interview, World Peace sounded
confident that there is no team capable enough of beating the new look Lakers;
"With the way the Lakers are looking this year, I don't see anybody getting past us this year at all,” - World Peace said.
There is no doubt that the current group of players representing the Lakers are very talented and are renowned for their capabilities, but there is still time before all of them can be together on the court.
Dwight Howard, who was brought over in the four-team block buster trade, is still recovering from back surgery and is not expected to be action anytime soon. In his absence, Antawn Jamison is expected to fill in the forward position
with Pau Gasol making the adjustment to play centre alongside the back court duo of Steve Nash and Kobe Bryant. But even with that line up, World Peace seems very confident;
"I saw Jamison today," World Peace said. "People forget how much a great rebounder he is. He's one of the greatest rebounders of the game; he has the best touch out of everybody in the NBA, best touch out of all the big men in
the game."
The biggest question is how the Lakers will gel together when Howard comes back from surgery. Mike Brown will have his work out when the big man returns, and he needs to form an offensive plan in which every star gets his share
of glory. For World-Peace though, that too would not be that big of a problem. Praising Brown and his coaching instincts, MWP said;
"Not only does he have confidence in his team, he also has confidence in himself," World Peace said of Brown. "I gotta trust in myself, trust in my teammates most importantly."
