  1. Hard to tell by your photograph.  I can't quit make out the body structure or the head.  But it looks like a beautiful species of wasp.  Can't see any wings though.

It's a magnificent looking creature.  If I knew where you lived it might help.

If you can spread the insect out and shoot an image of it from above and include that.  I could probably tell you then.

Also, just how big is it?  1/2" or 1" or 2"  ????

  3. it's a cuckoo wasp. And they are a kind of solitary wasp. It's odd that you are finding a bunch of them. They are fairly common in parts of North America. They come in many different colors. I usually see them in metallic shades of blue, green and purple.

  4. This is so weird!!!  I have been wondering the same thing for weeks now, but every time I saw one (outside) I forgot about it by the time I got home.  And just now one flew by the window, I remembered I was going to look for it online.  What do you know?!?!  You had just asked about it.  Thanks for asking about  it!!!

I think they are really cool and beautiful!  They have never seemed irritated when my dog and I cross paths so the bee/wasp never crossed my mind!!  I'm so glad people knew what they are!!

  5. Looks like it's probably a Chrysidid wasp, or cuckoo wasp.

They are mostly external parasites of wasps and bee larvae, and called cuckoo wasps because they lay their eggs in the nests of other species.
