Mette Poulsen, Nadiezda Zieba move forward in 2013 European Club Championships – Badminton news
Women’s Doubles team Mette Poulsen-Nadiezda Zieba registered its class by performing exceptionally well in the elimination round of European Club Championships on May 31, 2013.
They were up against an experienced duo Kirsty Gilmour-Beatriz Corrales and this tussle prolonged to 32 minutes before ending with a decisive result of 21-15 and 21-15.
Mette and Nadiezda, who were representing Team Skaelskor Slagelse, played impeccable badminton and alarmed all the contestants of this prestigious event by sealing a straight-set victory.
On the other hand, the twosome of Kristy and Beatriz could not play its given role and did not fetch even a single match point for BC Chambly Oise badminton club.
The battle heated up when Mette and Nadiezda launched an intensive attack and gained control over the game. They did not lose focus in next couple of rallies and strengthened their grip over the opening game.
At first, they pushed their rivals on the back foot by piling up a decent figure in no time and then doubled the impact by sweeping the table before interval. After the mid-game break, they made few fatal mistakes and these blunders weakened their grip.
The opposing team did not squander this counterattack opportunity and levelled the score in third quarter of the set. However, Mette and Nadiezda managed to tip the scale in their favour in the final moments. They placed a winning margin of 21-15 and moved
to the second set with a psychological edge.
This first set win helped them in the following game as they ruled the court without any major trouble and wrapped this showdown in a favourable manner. They laid foundation of their dominance in the preliminary stage and relished full benefits of this flow
in the ending part of set.
Mette and Nadiezda finished first half of the set with an impressive score position and maintained that upper hand all the way to game point situation.
Though, the duo of Kirsty and Beatriz made every effort to counterbalance the situation but luck was not on their side. They had to surrender after reading the concluding figures of 15-21.
