Mette Poulsen overpowers Vignes Waran in 2013 European Club Championships – Badminton News
Women’s Singles expert, Mette Poulsen of Denmark, played flawless badminton in the knock out round of European Club Championships and defeated Teshana Vignes Waran on May 31, 2013.
This tie was a part of the match between Asptt Strasbourg and Team Skaelskor Slagelse badminton club. Both contenders remained head-to-head for 30 minutes and concluded this tussle with final figures of 21-19
and 21-11.
The Danish player started the beating straight away in the first set and played with an authoritative approach all the way to final moments. She did not give her rival enough time to get settled and confounded
her with back-to-back productive rallies.
Teshana could not stand against this intensive attack and remained grounded in the establishing rallies. However, she managed to rise on her toes just before the interval and levelled the score on points table.
She did not lose focus and challenged her opponent in all areas of the game. At first, she finished the opening half of the set with a competitive margin and then added more thrill in the contest with a staggering
knock.
Both female shuttlers snapped at each other’s heels and kept the audience intact throughout the opening game. This nerve-racking set proved real test of their mental and physical strength, as both contenders
did not surrender until the game point.
In third quarter of the set, both contestants were standing equal in score position but then Mette Poulsen struck hard and tipped the scale in her favour with 21-19 total.
The second set of match also belonged to the Danish player as she enjoyed an upper hand from the very first stroke till the last one. This time she did not repeat her previous mistakes and kept the opposing shuttler
at the lower end.
In first half of the set, Mette Poulsen unleashed a series of well placed strokes and bagged many valuable points in a row. She did not break the flow and piled up a mountainous figure of 11 before the interval.
This initial advantage helped her a lot in the second half as she swept the table with an overwhelming score of 21-11.
