Mexican Alejandro Lopez takes on Russian Evgeny Gradovich in a non-title bout - Boxing News
Alejandro Lopez, the current NABA super bantamweight champion, is scheduled to take on the Russian rookie Evgeny Gradovich in a 10-round non-title bout, which will take place on March 31, 2012.
The skirmish will co-headline the pay-per-view jointly promoted by Top Rank’s executive Bob Arum and Jesse James Leija & Mike Battah Promotions. The ring for the Saturday night event will be stretched at Illusions Theater situated in San Antonio, Texas,
United States. The event will be headlined by the 10-round non-title encounter between returning Kelly Pavlik and Aaron Jaco.
Lopez, also known as ‘Alex’, has been in a total 25 bouts and came out victorious in 23. Alex is not a heavy duty pounder who throws powerful jabs to collect a swift, knockout win instead he relies heavily in wearing out his opponent by constant fists and
wins by unanimous decision.
Alejandro has collected just seven of his wins by knockout and has lost just two bouts against Aaron Garcia and Jorge Diaz. The Mexican number six acquired his NABA gold from Teon Kennedy by collecting a unanimous decision.
The 24-year-old recently fought Jose Palma and nailed him by a huge point difference. Evgeny, 25, Alex’s Saturday night opponent, is a rookie who just kicked off his career in 2010 and since then in a total 12 bouts remains undefeated. This will be the Russian
lad’s debut bout in the super bantamweight division and it might get a bit nasty since he is seriously outclassed by Mexican Alex’s experience.
Lopez has won bouts over many huge names and above all currently holds the NABA super bantamweight title. Evgeny, on the other hand, has only brawled in the featherweight division. Moreover though he is still unbeatable yet he resides at 91st position in
world rankings since he has fought men who are of least experience.
Evgeny is coming from a six round unanimous win over Robert Osiobe and possesses only a slight height advantage. This will also be the first ever event promoted by Jesse James Leija & Mike Battah Promotions, the newly established bout-promotion organisation.
Jesse James Leija, the former WBC super featherweight champion who has now retired from the profession, shared his thoughts about his first ever show and said, “We’re absolutely thrilled to present our first event to the terrific fans here in San Antonio.
My boxing career was always blessed with the outstanding support of the fans and media and I’m excited to get my promotional career kicked off with this action packed card.”
The event will also witness a non-title 10-round super featherweight bout between Casey Ramos and Gerardo Robles.
