Mexican Omar Chavez nails Colombian Emilio Julio in 10-round non-title bout – Boxing news
Omar Chavez, the current WBC Youth World welterweight champion, made an impressive comeback in his March 17, 2012 engagement and collected an authoritative ninth round technical knockout win over Colombian proud Emilio Julio.
The event which was headlined by the non-title bout between Roman Gonzalez and Manuel Jimenez was promoted by Promociones Zanfer’s Fernando Beltran and the ring was stretched at Palenque de Gallos situated in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico.
Omar and Emilio fought a non-title bout in the light middleweight division and put forth the boxing fans an impressive show of strength, resilience, agility, and footwork. Omar has been in a total 29 bouts and came out victorious in 27.
The 22-year-old Mexican recently collected his career’s only loss from Jorge Paez Junior via majority decision. Before that the ‘Terremoto’ was on an undefeated win streak. Despite the loss the young lad vowed to step up and nail his upcoming opponent Emilio.
Emilio, 32, also had the same experience as that of Omar but lacked in the win ratio substantially. Emilio has been in a total 29 bouts and came out victorious in 20. He has collected just 13 wins by knockout as compared to Omar’s 20 and therefore was behind
Omar in the knockout perspective as well.
Omar though had an upper hand when it came to agility and powerful knockout jabbing yet he was seriously outclassed by Julio’s height and eventually the vast reach. The bout kicked off and the duo started to bash each other with heavy duty fists.
Omar took full advantage of his agile footwork and evaded Julio’s maximum jabs by either ducking or just blocking. Emilio, infamous as the ‘El Tornado’, did try to intimidate his young opponent by forceful and vicious body fists but Omar successfully bought
himself the requisite time to absorb the pain of the heavy body shots.
The whole arena witnessed a clear sluggishness between the two pugilists who mostly kept on waiting for each other to attack and move forward. From the very first round Omar implemented the evasive strategy and threw his well targeted fists when Emilio was
totally open.
During the 10-round skirmish Julio even injured his right eye and later in the ninth round when a rattling fist flattened Emilio on the ring floor, the referee started the 10-count. Emilio though stood up and heard the whole count yet decided to move out
since he was badly battered and almost bloodied in his own blood.
After the bout the unscathed Omar remarked, “I felt very good. A little rough in taking care of my opponent, but all went well. We’re back on the road to success and the people of Culiacan were satisfied with my performance and that motivates me and makes
me more eager.”
Omar now has 28 wins in his account and 21 of them by knockout whereas Emilio has collected his career’s eighth defeat and sixth via knockout.
