I wont be getting any type of spider for 4 years or more, mum wont allow it. So I have plenty of time for research.

Ive become very interested in tarantulas, especially the Mexican Red Knee. So What I wanted to know, is the Mexican Red Knee a good tarantula for first time owners?

  1. Did you find my answer to your previous question on the subject lacking?

    Mexican Red Knees are great for beginners.  The only Tarantula that I would say could be better would be the Chilean Rose, and not by much.  Anyway, if you research enough any species of tarantula would be decent for a beginner.

    Here are some more care sheets;

    For more detailed info on how to keep tarantulas, see if you can get these books.  You might be able to get them from your local library.

    Tarantulas and Other Arachnids, by Samuel D. Marshall.

    Great book on general tarantula care, and it gives a good amount of info on common tarantula species on the market.

    The Tarantula Keepers Guide, by Stan and Marguerite Schultz.  Goes into a lot more detail about the hobby, how tarantulas work and evolved, how to catch wild tarantulas, and how to breed tarantulas.

    I have both books, and they are pricelss to the tarantula owner.  Amazon.com has a deal right now, both for $20, which I wish I knew about before I got them.  I paid 15$ for each book.
