Mexican Saul Alvarez successfully defends his WBC title against veteran Shane Mosley – Boxing News
Saul Alvarez, the WBC light middleweight champion, defied all odds and defended his title successfully for the fourth time against veteran Shane Mosley, the former WBA Super World welterweight champion, in a 12-round bout held on May 5, 2012.
The bout co-headlined the much anticipated pay-per-view which was headlined by the epic bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Miguel Cotto. The ring for the bout was setup at MGM Grand situated in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States and the Saturday night showdown
was promoted by the trio of Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions, Miguel Cotto of Promociones Miguel Cotto, and Leonard Ellerbe of Mayweather Promotions.
Saul, 21, is a Mexican surging pugilist who boasts an undefeated win streak and in his Saturday night encounter outclassed a pugilist who had a clear upper hand over him as far as the experience is concerned.
Alvarez, also known as The ‘Canelo’ or ‘Cinnamon’, was entering in his career’s 41st bout and boasted a huge win streak. The young lad has never lost even a single bout and has nailed 29 of his opponents by knockout.
The defending champion Saul is unanimously denoted as a complete brawler who not only possesses extreme levels of resilience but can also stun his opponent by his lethal knockout jabs. His opponent, Shane, 40, is a veteran who was entering in his 56th bout.
With recent consecutive under par performances it was predicted that Mosley, also known as the ‘Sugar’, might not put forth a classic performance. During the bout, Shane clearly exhibited signs of the fact that he has run out of gas and now it is time for
him to hang his gloves.
The 12-round wild ride was clearly dominated by the young Saul who kept on pummelling Shane with great speed and agility. Alvarez used his foot work and collected precious points by connecting jabs to Shane’s body and head.
At the same time, Mosley did not lose hope and retaliated with some beautiful fists that truly rattled Saul. At the end of the bout the three judges unanimously allocated 119-109, 119-109, and 118-110 score to Saul.
After the bout, the jubilant Alvarez commented that the win is the beginning of a new career and he is now ready to take on any one in the division. Saul remarked, “It was a great experience. This is the beginning of my career. Mayweather, Cotto, Pacquiao,
I am ready. Viva Mexico!”
Shane, while sharing his thoughts about the loss stated that he will now seriously think of leaving the sport since he is now being beaten up by kids. Mosley remarked, “These kids are beating me up, huh. It can look that way. When you get kids beating you
up.”
With this win Saul has collected his 40th win whereas Shane has unfortunately received his eighth career loss.
