Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim Domit confirms Mexican Grand Prix on the cards – Formula 1 news
Mexican billionaire Carlo Slim Domit has confirmed that the organisers and the people in Mexico are now thinking and trying to get a spot for the Mexican Grand Prix in the Formula 1 calendar.
“It is being studied,” said Domit when asked about the chances of reintroducing the Mexican Grand Prix to the sport.
It has been confirmed that it is not possible to do it so anytime soon though as the Formula 1 calendar is already going to introduce a number of venues for the sport in the coming years including the US Grand Prix and the Russian Grand Prix.
We can say that until 2014, there is no hope of holding a Mexican Grand Prix until or unless one of the current organisers of the venues decide to quit from the sport.
The president of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) Jean Todt recently made a statement that reintroducing the Mexican Grand Prix to the Formula 1 calendar in the later future could be possible.
Since Sergio Perez’s arrival in the sport, Domit has also been interested in the sport and he has been one of the main supporters of the young Sauber driver.
Currently, there is a track in Mexico City known as the Hermanos Rodriguez. The Mexican Grand Prix for Formula 1 used to take place there and it was in 1992 when the last Formula 1 race took place there. It was won by the legendary Nigel Mansell.
It is believed that the same circuit can host a future Mexican Grand Prix and since Perez is currently playing a vital role in the sport as a driver, now is the right time.
However, Domit added that even if the same circuit hosts the Mexican Grand Prix, it would require a lot of improvements as a result of which a lot of investors are required.
Since Mexico is currently stable economically and they have a huge Formula 1 fan following, spending money there to renovate or even create a new track seems like a pretty good idea and it could even turn out to be one of the biggest events of the sport.
