We are in planning a family vacation for July. Myself, wife and 2 kids (13+12). Has anyone tried Royal, Carnival and/or Disney cruise line? Seems like a big jump in price from Disney to Royal/Carnival.

  1. If you mean the west coast of Mexico, my husband and I did that and had a great time on Carnival Pride.  However, not everyone cares for the, um, Renaissance style art.

You can see some good pictures here:

(Look for a picture titled "scandalous art" to see what I mean)

Disney is definitely always more expensive than the others.  They also don't do cruises on the west coast.

To grossly over-generalize, Carnival is great at nightlife and activities and "fun" in general.  Royal Caribbean is more polished, and more sporty, and their newest ships have some great new facilities (ice skating rink, surf simulator).  Princess is another good option.

What's best really depends on what matters to you.  You might find this guide to choosing a cruise helpful:

It describes how different lines compare on different criteria (food, activities, formality).

If it's your first cruise, you might also like this "introduction to cruising", which covers how much things cost, what it's really like onboard, and frequently asked questions like how to avoid seasickness.

  2. THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE.  IF YOU LIKE DISNEY THEY YOU CAN GO ON THE DISNEY SHIP. I HAVE NEVER BEEN ON A DISNEY CRUISE BECAUSE MY KIDS NEVER WANTED TO GO SINCE WE LIVE IN FLORIDA AND ALWAYS HAD DISNEY IN OUR BACK YARD.  BUT WE HAVE DONE CARNIVAL AND ROYAL.  HERES THE DIFFERENCE.  CARVINAL:  IS GREAT WITH THE KIDS.  SINCE ITS CHEAPER THAN ROYAL, THERE ARE MORE FAMILIES WITH KIDS THAT ARE THEIR AGE,  ALSO THEY HAVE A BIG ARCADE, THEY HAVE BIG POOLS WITH  BIG SLIDES .  ROYAL:  ON MOST OF THE BIG SHIPS THEY HAVE THE FLOW WHICH IS A WAVE POOL WHERE THEY CAN SURF, THEY HAVE A RING FOR  ICE SHOWS.  THEY HAVE A BIG ARCADE, THERE IS GOLF, AND ROCK CLIMBING. SO IT ALL DEPENDS WHAT YOUR KIDS LIKE AND WHAT YOU ARE WILLING TO PAY.  CRUISING IS ALL WHAT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WILL MAKE OUT OF.  ENJOY YOUR FAMILY TRIP HAVE LOTS OF FUN.

  3. This site will let you compare available cruises

select cruises and in destination select mexican pacific coast.

You will see that carnival is your best price.

Princess and Holland are also very good cruise lines

    Have Fun

The sooner you book the better the price.

  4. I have been on all three of those lines.  I'm 15.  My absolute favorite is Carnival, followed by RC, then Disney.  The only Mexican Riviera one I have been on was Carnival (Carnival Pride).  That was one of my favorites of the six I have been on, even though it was Mex. and the rest were the Caribbean.  The only drawback about the Pride was that we didn't have the best waiter.  There was one a couple tables over and the whole time we were just wishing he was ours... he seemed so fun!  BUT we did have a REALLY good waiter on RC.  The BEST ever!  His name was... Raj... Rahj??  I don't know how to spell it.  Anyways, I like Carnival because personally I think it has the most activities.  I also think that their ships have really fun themes.  (I believe the Pride is Renaissance... so there were some nude paintings but I hardly even noticed... it was no big deal at all)  I didn't like Disney... I was 9 when I went on it and I felt like the big kid on the ship.  I didn't think their food was all that great either.  I hardly remember the dining experience... nothing too striking.  But there is a color changing dining room.  I even remember the cruises from when I was 5 and 6 better than the Disney one.  Definitely watch the Travel Channel because they have hour long shows about Disney lines, the RC Freedom of the Seas? I think it is, and maybe Carnival.  I forget.  Just keep an eye out for those.  I love that channel haha.  Oh yeah, and about the price... Royal & Carnival are not badly priced.  Disney is just very very cheap.  Please, go on RC or Carnival.  However, if you want to do a Disney some time, do it NOW before your kids are any older!

  5. Go Royal. Disney is more for kids who still believe in Santa.

  6. We've only cruised on Royal Caribbean. It's great for adults, and there is something always going on for the teen crowd.  Nice ships and nice staff.

  7. We just took a Royal cruise.  It seemed ver kid-friendly with lots of activities.  There were actually people of all ages aboard.
