Mexican fencers make a clean sweep on the final day of 2011 Pan American Youth Championship
The Mexican male and female fencers made a clean sweep on the final day of the 2011 Pan American Youth Championships. Mexican girls won all the medals of Girl's Y-14 Foil competition while Mexican boys made a clean sweep in Boy's Y-14 Sabre segment.
The Mexican team marvellously took home sixteen gold medals, with the contribution of four gold medals, three silver and nine bronze medals on the final day. The Mexican females conquered all three titles of Y-14 category. Mexican Guadalupe Cruz defeated
United States' Madeline Antekeier in an eventual bout for gold medal of Girl's Y-14 Epee segment. Mexican Gloria Mildret and Liliana Tejeda beautified their necks with bronze medals of the same segment. Lilaina’s sister, Frania Tejeda had already won the gold
medal in Girl's Y-12 Epee event.
In Girl's Y-14 Foil segment, Mexican Victoria Meza was the last fencer, who remained undefeated throughout the competition and ended, with the gold medal victory over another Mexican Lydia Yvette Casillas. In Girl's Y-14 Sabre Julieta Toledo defeated United
States' Madeline Curzon in the final and grabbed gold medal. Mexican Helena Alonso, Tania Arrayales accumulated bronze medals in Y-14 Sabre segment. Mexican athletes not only took most of the medals, but also occupied most of the top 10 places.
The Mexican male fencers also equally worked along with females for medal victories of Y-14 events. Mexican Sabre fencers made a clean sweep by winning all four medals in Boy's Y-14 Sabre competition. Kevin Madrid took the gold medal, Adrian Acuna took silver
while Sergio Espinosa and Javier Hernandez captured bronze medal. Javier’s brother Irving Hernandez had already took home the gold medal via Boy’s Y-12 Sabre segment.
In Boy’s Ignacio Haghenbeck took the silver medal in Y-14 Epee contest while Jorge Diaz grabbed bronze medal in same category. Mexican fencers took total thirteen medals including nine medals in Y-10 contest, eight medals in Y-12 contest and sixteen medals
in Y-14 contest during all three days of the Youth Championships. It was more than extra-ordinary performances by Mexican fencers.
