my boyfriends birthday is coming up and i want to surprise him. i had the idea of making clues where he had to find me, like a scavenger hunt type thing. at the end he will find me and a picnic set up. i need help with food ideas though. his favorite food is mexican so i was hoping for a mexican picnic. i plan on having chips and salsa, but im not sure what else to bring. i was gonna order a small cake also, but maybe if someone had a better idea for dessert, thatd be great. he doesnt like straberries, but if something is strawberry flavored thats fine. and he loves spicy food. also if you have a dish i can cook, please leave the recipe or website to find the recipe. thanks!

  1. taquitos with gaucamole and crema. This is a great finger food.or some tortas which is a kind of a french loaf with your choice of meat (asada , fajitas , ham , carne de puerco ) inside according to your liking goes tomatoe, lettuce, avocado,  and crema. again stick with finger foods.

  2. well i agree Sopapillas are delicious...you can also try..a "Paster de tres leches", that is a delicious cake....i dont have the recipe but  you can look it up..you can try also making some beef tacos..with all the fixins like tomatoe, letuce, some picante sauce..

  3. Have waiting some chicken burritos that have been cut bias. Serve guacamole also. Serve some agua de Melon. For the desert order a Tres Leches cake. Hopefully you can find one made with Kahlua. Yum-O I say burritos because you don't have to worry about keeping them hot. You could bake a chicken and sprinkle with garlic powder, red pepper, onion powder, salt and pepper. That will not have to be kept hot either. I am trying to keep in mind how long it will take him to find you.

I am Chicana and I wish you the best for your picnic for two....

  4. For a picnic, the easiest to transport would be tamales or burritos for your main course. The burritos can be kept hot by wrapping them in aluminum foil and placed in a thermal food bag. Here is a site with burrito recipes, http://allrecipes.com/Recipes/World-Cuis... and here is a site for tamales, http://www.fabulousfoods.com/features/ta...

Good luck with your picnic and the sopapilla suggestion for dessert is a good idea.

  5. Try Sopapillas for your dessert. I enjoy honey drizzel on top of mine, although I have had them with powdered sugar as well.

  6. go to a taqueria...mexican place that serves mostly tacos... and order a couple orders of taquitos of diff meats with cilantro and onions....dont forget to ask for salsa too. take them out of the bag and put them in your own container...when you are ready to leave for the picnic.   go to mexican bakery or reg supermarket in the southwest (cali to texas) and order a tres leches cake....and bring it along....or better yet order it and pick it up along the way. tell him you made it...    if you dont speak spanish dont let it stop you from going to the latin side of town or a taqueria....most ppl will help you find what your looking for or even explain something...just dont do it during the lunch rush with ppl waiting in line behind you.
