Mexico's government changed since 2000, and I hear it's slowly fixing things. But as a Mexican citizen, are you happy with what it's doing? is it really fixing things? if not, why? provide any sources that I can read to help me understand this better! thanks!

  1. Let me put this quick: my grandparents say they have never had a better goverment in their lifetimes as it is today.

My parents say, it is easier to get what you want nowdays as long as you work for it.

As for me, i'm middle class, i've been working by choice since I was 17. I bought my new car when I was 20, and i'm about to buy a house... not a cheap house.... not a expensive one either, but a house where I want to live. With my own money yo, i've travel in Mexico a few times, and also i've been backpackin in Euorpe a couple of times.

If you work, you NOW can get what you want.

  2. well as you probably already know mexico is just starting to live a real democracy and our Goverment is learning how to act according to the ways of democracy, not everything is going well but its hard to chance somethings thats been so bad and so wrong for too many years.

Among the bad things: My country doesnt have a developing strategy.. Basicaly in todays mexican economic policy the only thing that they care about is how to keep the goverment running.....No industrial strategy, No agricultural development strategy, educational etc...the only thing they do is attend inmediate needs, but not like in the USA. where for example everybody visions the importance of oil reserves.

For that you can see the portal of the presidency of mexico

    presidencia.gob.mx

Some institutions need a lot to learn from democracy yet, like the chamber of representatives (diputados) and the senate( senadores) they tend to not recognize what is going to be the price of their actions, that means that in the next election their party could loose positions due to things like the one is going on right now...A leftwing party PRD took by force the buildings of the senate and the representatives chamber, and therefore every discussion or legislative attenmp is paralized......thats antidemocratic and they are seeding their dooms day for the next election.

And theres a lot more of bad things but in general the things are improving bit by bit

In the positive side Mexico now has credit, banks are giving loans to the people and receving money from pension funds and tranforming that into loans for housing, cars, industry, etc.

that was only posible thanks to the stability on the budget of the goverment.

There is also a section of the population that demand a better standard of living and thinks that the goverment should provide that no matter what, there is a left wing movement thirsty for power and wants to stablish a regiment  with an strong leader  who should run the country with an iron fist, and take the money from the rich and give it to the poor, no domacracy no institutions, just a messianic leader who solve all the problems.

  3. In our lifetime you will never find a Mexican that is happy with their government.

They have simply been burned too many times and have become very cynical and sceptical .

You can imagine what they think of Raul Salinas.  The ex presidents brother.  $90 million in City Bank.

When some Mexicans are struggling to feed their families.

The horror stories are far too numerous to mention.

The most complimentary thing I have heard to date when I ask your question is "Parece que si"  Seems to be.

  4. I know Yucatan considered to split from Mexico and become a independant country the way Guatemala did for example. Glad they didn't. Say what you want about local government ruling that state badly (hey, I'm not the idiot that keeps on voting for PRI down there), but Yucatan benefits economically from staying with the rest of Mexico. Look at the GDP of Yucatan and Guatemala per capita. Guatemala's is US$4 mil 568 per cápita as of 2007 and Yucatan is 6,556 from around the same period.

Now in topic, most mexicans if not heavily happy and joyous they are tolerant of the government. You can't transforma a country 180° is so little time and with people like AMLO making a fool of himself terrorizing in the name of "democracy".

Along with the great post of Big Bubba (couldn't have said it better myself), it's hard to run a country when the capital city (given Mexico is still a very centralized country) is held by the opposition and not to mention the State of Mexico has never had a PANista govenor ever (and the way Pan poorly chooses candidates to run in this part of the country, I doubt they ever will for the next 50 years).

It wouldn't be an issue if only Peña Nieto and Ebrard got along with Felipe and the three actually did things to really improve Mexico City. However, since they have the maturity of a 3 year old child, they could care less what could happen to us chilangos unless they worked together on a common goal which they won't. So the result is that Felipe does good stuff for the federal economy and for the states that endorse him, but nothing significant for Mexico City where almost a quarter of the population lives because nobody gets along. This creates a vicious cycle of disinteresed voters who will vote against PAN because they blame him for the problems the city has (at least in the State of Mexico things are better than in the DF though).

Just think for a second, why do you think they don't make public transportation that crosses State of Mexico to DF? It would benefit 9 million people and decrease air contamination (a big issue in Mexico city indeed), but the little children running the regional governments don't wanna play with eachother. Boo-hoo!!! I swear, some people running the government of this country probably still wear diapers.

But hey, us chilangos that live in the State of Mexico don't "officially exist" even if the area I live in is metropolitan Mexico City. It's like we are pariahs of our own city. Imagine New York City treating New Jersians like pariahs and you can see the sheer stupidity of this which is quite real I must say.

Hopefully the stoopidities of the perredistas blocking congress will ring a bell in the brains of some mexicans and they are going to lose real big in 2009 when the next federal congressional elections will take place. Won't do much regionally for Mexico City, but at least PRD will continue to lose favor and be called radical terrorists and will get their butss kicked in 2012.

Quite frankly, I wouldn't want to be in Felipe's shoes haha. At least he seems to be a pretty decent man who's open about his economical earnings. I wished congressmen followed his example of modesty.

  5. i don't trust on mexican government, they just care about their own interest.
