Mexico's Yaquis take 2011 Caribbean Series – MLB News
Mexico’s Yaquis managed to beat Venezuela in a thrilling game to finish at 4-2 to become the 2011 Caribbean Series Champions at the Isidoro Garcia Stadium on February 7.
The Yaquis have won the title after five years by putting in an amazing effort to dominate the other teams in the Series.
The Mexican team managed to put in a brilliant effort as took a 3-0 win over Puerto Rico. The Yaquis watched the last game between the Dominican Republic’s Toros Del Este against Puerto Rico’s Caguas club.
The Dominican Republic had a decent season last year, but this year they were beat by Venezuela 3-0. Dominican Republic’s manager Dean Treanor after losing to Venezuela said, "We put ourselves in a bad situation. I didn't think we would play so bad."
Caguas and the Toros were on the top of the round having excellent record of 3-3. The Caribes only managed to win two games out of six against Venezuela. However, Yaquis defeated Venezuela with a 4-2 record to grab the title.
"To be able to win the Caribbean Series is not only important for me, but it's for the entire country of Mexico," said outfielder Justin Christian, who recently signed with the Giants. "To be able to compete and play against the Latino countries is amazing."
Jorge Vazquez put in an amazing performance for the Yaquis as he hit three home-runs in the ninth to lead the team to victory.
President of the Puerto Rico Baseball League, Sadi Antonmattei said, "There have not been many series this close and not every series has the opportunity to have a four-way tie on the last day. In terms of competitiveness, it's been a very close series and
it was up to par."
This year it seems that Mexico is just too strong as they managed to easily dominate their opponents throughout the exciting Series. After five long years the team has taken the title and showed the rest that Mexico is a competitive force once again in baseball
in the region. The Mexicans will undoubtedly celebrate their much deserved victory.
