Hi, I am planning on traveling to Mexico, and was wondering if you or anyone here on Yahoo Answers could recommend an online english company that rents GSM Cell phones that will roam on the movistar and telcel networks down there.

  1. I use these guys; I sprung for the $50 phone (buying, not renting), which is great--you just buy SIM cards for whatever country you're visiting.  A good deal if you travel a lot.

  2. First of all, you're doing the right thing looking for a rental rather than trying to buy. There's lots of reasons for that, but one of them is that the lowest priced (both for equipment and for minutes) 'english speaking' company online that rents cell phones specifically made for Mexico also offers VOIP with their phones (no add'l cost) which reduces the cost of international calls to pennies. That isn't something you can get by buying your own phone.

Anyway - the cell company you want is Mexitel Cellular. They specialize in phones for the Mayan Riviera, but I've used one of their phones in Alcapulco and it worked perfectly there too. Look around the web, they have a great reputation and in my experience, they live up to it.

  3. Mexico also has NEXTEL, which will allow you to roam here from the US.

Cell phones to buy are very reasonable. Maybe instead of renting, why not purchase one when you arrive, then purchase the airtime. Kinda like a TRAC phone.

  4. at&t

  5. You get a new cell phone here for 50 usd, activated with 30 usd credit included. Best option is to buy one.
