I will be going to Mexico city in a couple months - what parts of the city should I avoid? Is it possible to get a cheap apartment in a relatively safe neighborhood? And... are people happy there? If you live there, do you like the city?

  1. Mexico is definitively a beautiful and interesting place to be in!!! but u also have to take some precautions:

    - don´t trust in everyone

    - don´t expose your money

    -avoid being alone at night

-avoid being in ugly zones such as Tepito , la MErced

Some safe neighborhoods are: (and also kind of cheap)

    condesa*

    Coyoacan

    Tlalpan

    villa coapa

*it is specially for artistic guys, it have a bohemian style, is really cool

Also enjoy nightlife!!!! be sure to be dressed really nice and also be prepared to pay covers up to $400 pesos, but ur definitively going to enjoy!!!

    I hope u love mexico!!!

  2. Mexico City can be a safe place - but, you have to be careful like any other big city.  A couple rules to live by.

    1. Dont go out alone at night.

    2. Dont take taxi's from the street.

    3. Carry a cell phone with you.

    4.  Doing anything illegal - drugs, etc, will bring on extra danger.

    5. Speak the language if you can - blend in as best as possible.

There are many safer neighborhoods but nothing is 100% safe.  Unfortunately as in any big city - the nicer and more expensive the neighborhood the more "safe" you will be.  You can find a place at any budget - from $200 per month to $5,000 per month.

Avoid the poorer neighborhoods especially if you stick out.  Tepito and parts of the eastern part of the city stand out to me.

Remember that crime here is mostly motivated by money - not violence.

I have lived here in Mexico CIty for 15 years and love the city.  People for the most part are happy urban dwellers who tolerate many disturbances.

    Be safe.

  3. OH yea you live in polanco its a very safe and the people who live there are so very nice, and please dont go to the north of the city its a very horrible: kill,

  4. I live in Mexico City and I can't say it better then Guerrito, he summed it up 100 %.
