Hi!

Looking at possible holiday locations and Mexico is in the top 3!

However we dont want to go to Cancun, we want somewhere peacefull but also somewhere where we can walk to pubs etc if we feel like it. I just wondered if anybody has any suggestions?

And also what time of the year do you think is best?

Thanks!

  1. I have traveled around Mexico quite a bit.  Two of the best trips I have made are

    1.  A hot springs tour.  There are lots of mineral hot springs in Mexico and you can have your pick of the type you want from a hot cave,(like a sauna) which is very cheap, to a super nice hotel with a hot spring pool.  Check out the book I recommend below.

    2. You can go to some of the lesser known but still fantastic beach towns like Puerto Escondido or Puerto Angel not far away.  There is a beach called Zipolite which is really fun for body surfing if you are a strong swimmer.

  2. For years we have gone to small towns in the Mexican state of Nayarit which is just to the  north of Puerto Vallarta on the west coast.  Bucerias, San Pancho (also known as San Francisco), Lo de Marcos.  We've also gone south of Puerto Vallarta to towns in Coste Alegre - Melaque and La Manzanilla.  All of these towns are winter homes (or even full time homes) to many Canadians and Americans - not the typical tourist traps.  (Although Bucerias is growing really fast, with high rise all-inclusive hotels going in nearby and condo buildings).  We like peaceful places also and these towns have not yet become too commercial.  We like to go between late November and the first of March - perfect weather!  Too hot and humid in the summer.
