Besides New Mexico being a state and Mexico being a country, what is the difference between them? Why was one named New Mexico and the other named Mexico? Also, is it safe for tourist to visit Mexico?

  1. Why do people think it's not safe to travel to Mexico?

  2. New Mexico is beautiful and i live in Albuquerque so i know. But Mexico i dont know about that. New Mexico was from Spain then Mexico and now the U.S. email me if you have any other questions about my state.

  3. Well New Mexico. Is a wonderful state.

Mexico like U.S.A has many thing in comment, crime, poor people. very very very rich people(Bill Gates second riches man in the world according to Forbes 2007 and the riches man in the world this gready man). I

  4. The northern part of Mexico was sold to the US. New Mexico was part of a region along with Durango and Chihuahua (actually, documents from Durango can be found in Santa Fe).

The size of them is quite different (Mexico is bigger), the official language in Mexico is Spanish, food is different, well... it is a whole other country (with laws, customs, architecture, ethnic people, etc)

It is safe for tourists to visit Mexico, indeed... unless you are a druglord.

    hope this helps.

  5. Much of the Southwestern US used to be Mexican territory.  During the mid-19th century, the US sought to expand its territory westward.  At the end of the Mexican-American War (1848), the United States acquired what is now California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah and New Mexico.  Much of this territory was originally called New Mexico, as detailed in the passage below from www.newmexico.org:

"With the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, the Mexican-American War came to an end in 1848, and on September 9, 1850, the United States authorized the creation of the Territory of New Mexico and the establishment of a new civil government. At this time, The New Mexico territory consisted of the present-day state of New Mexico, Arizona, parts of southern Colorado, southern Utah, and a portion of southern Nevada. It would remain this way until 1861, when the northeastern portion of the territory was attached to Colorado, but the biggest change came in 1863 when the territory was divided in half and the western portion became Arizona."

Listen to the other two posters on visiting Mexico (and New Mexico).  BTW, what country are you from?

  6. Yes, It's safe visit Mexico, just use the common sense and do not do things that problably you even don't do in some parts of the States.

Beside Mexico the country and the state of New Mexico, The capital city of Mexico has the name Mexico, so is Mexico City, it is also another state in Mexico with the name Mexico, is the State of Mexico, the capital of this state is Toluca.

Beside that, in the USA you can find a small town called Mexico at the northwest.

  7. Mexico is a beautiful country and very safe when you go to the tourist areas. Sometimes the border town right next to the US can be filled with aggressive people trying to get you buy prescription meds or have medical treatments because it's less money in Mexico than in the US.  Noagles is a border town, and it's pretty safe.  There is a lot of shops where you can get bargains and even a nice little Mexican restaurant where everyone speaks English.  You literally walk across the Arizona border.

However, areas like Cancun, Cabo San Lucus,...are just beautiful.

New Mexico, is a great state that has many American Indian reservations....and santa fe is a thriving city,...with unique architecture.

If you are looking for beaches and a tropical vacation head to the country of Mexico.

  8. I live in NM its great to visit and has great food. forget the stereotypes, we are nothing like mexico.
