to overtake them later and get a 2-0 advantage in the game. The loss of the first two sets triggered the Venezuelans into action and they were able to put up a strong performance to avoid a clean sweep by bagging the third set of the game. The fourth set started
off even but the Mexicans managed to get the lead and stick with it until the end of the match which declared the Mexicans victors at 25-23, 25-20, 26-28 and 25-21.
The coach of the Mexican team, Jorge Azair, expressed himself in the following manner at the press conference that was conducted after the match reached its close: “I think winning is always good. Fortunately we won today. We have to improve in some situations,
playing more aggressively but at the same time with more calm against the upcoming teams, that are very tough. We stabilized our service a little bit as well as our reception. That will help us to be more productive in our attack and counterattacks.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Venezuelan team, Gilberto Herrera, shared his feelings by making the following statements: “I can’t ask for more. This is the first international match played by this team, a very young one. If we had more than 30 matches
a year the situation would have been different.”
