Question:

Mexico for Vacation?

We are considering taking our next vacation to Mexico. I am not a "beach" person. I would rather spend my time exploring ruins, sites, etc. What part of Mexico would be good to go to for this purpose?.....

or perhaps a cruise would be better?

  1. There are interesting ruins all over Mexico either far inland or by the coast. If you are not much of a beach person, you can hit the historical sites where you can find both ruins and beautiful colonial cities.

    There are different kind of ruins as there have been different peoples and nations. The Aztecs and the Mayas are only two of the many who have populated this diverse country.

  2. Chichenitza, Teotihuacan. Tulum.

On the Caribbean side there are the ruins of Tulum and then inland a couple of hours there is Chichenitza (I know I spelled that wrong!!!) and one other that the name escapes me.  I know there are others further inland and on the Pacific Coast.  I do know that these two locations are accessible via reputable tours accessible through the hotels.  If you have not been to the country before, I would definitely recommend using a tour operator as it is not like exploring in the US!!!  I think you will find the ruins more accessible by land than by a cruise.  There are many other things to do besides the beach - jungle atv tours, zip lines, and some fascinating snorkeling in the cenotes.

Go to the south east you can begin in Mexico City in Teotihuacan, then you can go to Tajin in Veracruz, go down to Tabasco to La Venta then go to Chiapas to Bonampak, Palenque, Yaxchilan (I'm sure I spelled completely wrong) and Toniná you are not a beach person but in Chiapas you can do extreme sports, kayak, rapel, climbing and you can swim in rivers. and to go to the Agua Azul waterfalls that are amazing, besides you can visit San Cristobal de las Casas.
