I need to pick up some inexpensive gifts for people with costs ranging from a buck or two to 20-30 bucks any suggestions, the gifts need to be something they cant get at home. And does anybody know anything about the paper figures for fantatic animals? Thanks! Oh, I will be in Mexico city and Jalapa.

  1. Try La Ciudadela,an enormous arts&craft market in Mexico City (centro). The finest arts and crafts can be found at Bazar del Sabado (saturday) in the San Angel area of Mexico city.

In Xalapa, El Callejon del Diamante is a small steep street located just a couple of blocks from the Zocolo with a lot of people selling hand made items.

I'm not sure what kind of paper craft you are referring to.Would it be the intricately cut paper, papel picado?

  2. Idk really, a bottle of tequila or maybe cuban rum (you can't find those in the US, a friend of mine took one with her wich costed her like 20 dollars and she sold the bottle for 50 dollars, im not saying that you should sell a bottle but maybe someone would like it) maybe cuban cigars, if you have a friend who enjoys smoking, some traditional outfits haves great quality and maybe someone over there (Flint Michigan right?) =P would like something like that some of the clothes are very casual nothing too typical or folk, candy if you like it's hard to find in the us, coffe, maybe some art you can visit interesting places in Mexico city, idk im running out of ideas, still you have to be at Mexico city first and then you'll see something perfect for everyone you know you'll see....

ps the fantastic figures are called alebrijes, some of them are really cool i myself got like 2 or 3 over my living room and believe me they are the center of attention over there, of course you'll find those with good and bad quaility but some of them are really art handcrafts it's hard to pack them to travel though, you'll find them on art markets, not very dificult to find by the way...

    hope it helps
